    Hallmark Identity on Sterling Jewelry
Hello, I am wondering if anyone here might be able to assist me in the identification of the hallmark/copyright insignia/maker's mark shown in this first photo. The best way I can describe it is - it's a reversed dollar sign with only a single hash mark through it, as opposed to 2. It is stamped onto the bottom of each charm that is strung onto my sterling silver, fetish-styled necklace, purchased in Tucsion, AZ in 1994. I had assumed that it was a Kabana piece, but they informed me recently that it is not. Thanks, to anyone who can help.

Correction: My original post incorrectly describes the Maker's Mark. The symbol is not in the reverse at all - it is, in fact, in the same order as a "dollar sign", and might well be meant to represent one. I've reposted an inverted, or right side up, photo. I apologize for my error. I am still looking to find who the manufacturer is. Thanks again to all for having a go at it.

This mark stands for: c. sydney smith & co. from newark, nj~~~1869 until he died in 1907, but his jewelry continued until 1922. I also have a few of his works of jewelry and researched it forever to finally find this info!
