My carpenter made a mistake and cut the hole for the shower arm too large. I've been trying to find an oversize (3") shower arm flange to cover it but can't find one. Are there any suggestions as to how I can cover up this mistake.

I seem to remember a 1/2" by 3" split ring chrome escutcheon plate but can't find it on the web. Here is what I've come up with; http://www.plumbingsupply.com/escutch.html

If it were my call I would back the opening and then either spackle or tile over the hole and install a regular 2 1/2" chrome escutcheon plate over that. Good luck Tom

I too have a problem with an oversized hole for the shower arm. Is it possible that someone could tell me where to buy an oversized flange. One measuring 4" in diameter would work.

To buy what size of flange? How large is the hole you're attempting to cover? Back to you, Tom

Tom, the goof measures 3 in. in height and 1.75 in. in width. The contractor cut the shower arm hole out and then had to raise the bottom so it's off. So we have the new shower pipe, but a hole above it! Thanks.

About the only fix I know for something like this (besides repairing the hole properly... ;) ) is to STACK different size flanges on top of each other by using a silicone caulking and waiting for the silicone to dry before applying the stacked flange over the shower arm.

Here, say, start with a 2" flange (about 4" diameter) and silicone a 1" flange on top of that and then silicone the regular shower arm flange on top of that. This gives a domed flange look which can actually look "fancy", but can also look silly depending on how you look at it!

Other than that, you can try calling delta or moen and see if they have something that will work for you... they should. It won't be for the intended purpose, but they have trim plates for say diverters, body sprays, etc. and one of those should work for you!

Even though this original post is 6 years old, since it was posted here's another solution. Look at the knob guards used to keep door knobs from hitting the wall. Some of them are about 3". You can also buy sheet plastic and carefully cut a flange out. They also sell ceiling box covers that are 4" in diameter. Put that on the wall and the decorative flange over that.
