In Sink Erator pro 17 won"t work!
I have a Pro 17 in sink erator that was in the house we just bought, won't spin. I know this model you put the plug in , spin it ,and it should work, but does nothing. Tested power to the unit and that's fine. Any other things I'm forgetting? Thanks a lot!!

Can you spin it by hand with the supplied wrench? If so then the motor is likely burned out or maybe as simple as a wire loose or broken. Either way it will probably need to come off the sink to be looked at.

I can spin it with the wrench, so I guess my Friday night is taking it apart!

Is the disposal making a humming noise..? If not then it sounds like the unit is shot as 450 donn has suggested. Check the model number and serial number, call the number on the tag (on unit) and see if this disposal is under warranty... never know... ;)

If it is making a humming noise then it could simply be that the red rest button on the bottom of the unit needs to be reset by pushing the button in so it is flush with the disposal (see pictures).

    Let us know more...

You may have small piece of bone, or a pit, lodged between the rotating plate and body of the GD. Do as Mark suggested: spin it manually with supplied wrench or take a broom stick, put it inside and try to spin it by hand.

    Maybe bad switch.

    Hi Rgroves...

Dex stated that he has power to the unit.. so the switch is not a likely solution here, but we appreciate the effort... :)

    Welcome to AMHD...

Sorry, I mean switch on the unit. The unit may have power to it but switch could be bad.

ISE Pro 17 garbage disposer activates ONLY when drain cover is inserted, inserted correctly, and turned one way. Drain cover is the device that acts as a switch. You will hear metal-on-metal manual click. It is the magnet moving inside to G/D collar. There is a half-circle flat metal at the collar of the garbage disposer. You have to insert the cover in the drain so it aligns with that plate. It won't work in all positions. Find the correct position and leave it inserted. Do not remove it if you don't have to. Water will drain with cover inserted and rose. To activate: spin the drain cover about 90 degrees.

It could be the batch feeder on/off switch that is broken (the on/off switch is activated by the insertion of the drain-cover). Check behind the unit, near the top, there should be a box-like protrusion. The on/off switch is in there. You'll have to open it up and play with it (but be careful of shocks). If this is the problem, it's only a $50 part.

Can the plastic locking mechanism for the On/Off cap be fixed or replaced. Mine became detached & fell into the disposal.

I have the same model, in my new house, and my problem is at the opposite end...

As soon as I put the breaker on, it starts, but there's no way I can stop it, unless I put the breaker back off.
I tried all the manoeuver I could do with the cover, turn right side, left, remove it push pull... nothing seems to work...

    Am I missing something, here??

Nicaro, remove garbage disposer plug. Reach under the sink and locate the magnetic collar attachment. Un-snap it from the collar and snap it back in. Than, align the plug with the magnet. It appears your problem is misaligned plug which also acts as disposer switch. Let me know how you did. Back to you. Milo

    Geesh...

I wish I knew what you're talking about...

I'll check and see if I can find something looking like what you're talking about...

I must remove the whole unit?

    Hi Nicaro...

No need to remove the disposal at all... ;)

Milo was telling you to look up and under the sink at the disposal neck and see if you can see the big black switch collar around the neck of the disposal... possible it has slipped or is defective.

If you look at the image below you'll see a black plastic collar near the top of the disposal... this is what you are looking to reengae from underneath... just slips and "clicks" in place.

Check the collar (USE A FLASHLIGHT) and see if all makes sense and see if that fixes all. Let us know what you find, OK?

Nicaro: remove plug from the sink/gargage disposer drain. Flip breaker ON. Is GD still running on its own ?

Yeah... that's an older model batch feed #17. Check the drain plug as Milo suggested... looks like a switch issue to me... don't think this can be repaired by a homeowner... not sure it can even be repaired by a pro... ;)

Unplugged the water IN AND OUT, and still running...
(sorry for my poor english, usually speaks french... )

    I give up...

I guess that sometimes you need to be humble, and admit you've been defeated by a single disposal device...

Nicaro: If you look at the large pic you posted, there is a small box attached to the collar of the GD. (right, upper side ). That's the ON/OFF switch. That switch may have gone bad. You will have to take the GD out and test that switch, possibly replace it.
