Why won't my Lexmark X5150 power up?
    Hi,

Moved my printer (upstairs to downstairs) and I now have no power inside the printer (I measured 30 volts at the plugin adapter).
Is there a reset or fuse inside I can replace?
How about combination button press, or timed button press (for example 5 seconds on the power button goes to powersave mode)
I can't find anything in the manual (surprise!).
    Any other ideas?

Ok might be a stupid question, but did you shake, drop or spill liqiuds onto the printer? Wiring might have detached during the move.

Timed button press might be something you can try, it's how I have to turn on my Epson. (3 secs button-down).

Ohhhh... not at all a stupid question!
(It's actually pretty easy to forget to put something in that might have been important; "Ohhh, sorry, I forgot to mention that I backed over it with the truck in the morning!")

But no, nothing untoward has happened to the printer. I searched the manual literally page by page for reset information; nothing other than the "hold power button for 5 seconds to go into powersave mode", which, of course, I tried because at some point people try anything to get a response.

I'll be taking it apart today to try and track the internal power and find a fuse or something. I'll come back and update this posting then. (I'm not an electronics expert, so unless there's a fuse or something I won't get much from this exercise.)

Ok... here's the scoop on this!

Took the printer apart (I would not recommend this to anyone unless you have the explicit instructions and, more importantly, the procedure!), I broke several plastic tabs, etc. If you really want to take one apart, do it with the thought that you will throw the unit out at the end if you can't fix it. It will never go back together the same again!
The result was that the power supply is 'flakey'! A tap on the power converter at the end of the cord, and it would power up; even though 30 (actually 29) volts were measured on the contacts. (I actually could have figured this out WITHOUT having to take it apart!)

I'll try to find an adapter on the web (ebay perhaps).

If you're still looking for this adapter, let us know the part number (or other info from the adapter itself) and we might be able to help out.

    Hi Wally,

I haven't really thought about it. I just figured I'd get a new printer if it REALLY starts acting up! But, I'm cheap and will get as much as I can from it! (bought in april/04 $171).
The adapter has a model number of ADP-25FB. It is a rectangular block with two tabs sticking out of the end flush with one of the larger sides.
How much are you thinking, with shipping?

    Dave,
I have one (see photo) that I'll give you if you'll pay the shipping charge. Send me a private message (click on my name) with your address and I'll go to the post office to see what it would cost. You can use PayPal or we'll work something else out if you are interested.

    Regards,
    WallyH

P.S. The two tabs are not visible in the photo, but are intact. I removed this from my 5150 when I recycled it (I save everything!) and it was working at the time.

    Geeez... thanks Wally!
I clicked on your WallyHelps username, but the user profile shows "WallyHelps has no contact information." Certainly can't find an email address.

Hmmm... so you don't get a "Send a Private Message to..." option like in this picture?
This uses the AskMeHelpDesk system to send me a message. I sure thought this would work. Note that I do not see this option for you, that is why I didn't send you a private message earlier.

Check again and let me know.
