Why do people drive 55 in the passing lane?
Usually, it's simply to try to enforce onto you, the driver who wants to go faster than the posted limit, that if THEY should do the speed limit, so should YOU.
Then you have the "heh heh, I'm not gonna let this guy pass" jerk who gets up beside the governed semi doing 55 and blocks ALL the traffic. That's until he gets bored with that, or the truck driver catches on he's being a jerk and starts to ease in too close for the jerk's comfort and makes him speed up or back off.
Then there's guys like me, who when driving through an area with high volume of idiots on the road or cops, will set the cruise and get in the right lane. Then I'll come across someone going even slower than that and get into the left lane to pass, still on cruise, and forget to move back over.
But most of the time it's a power trip. Yeah.
They do it because they want to and don't care about any other drivers on the road.
