Try Melatonin 3 mg sublingual pills. You only need one 3 mg pill to fall asleep within 45 minutes. You can buy them on the internet relatively cheap with no rx needed as melatonin is something the body produces naturally as well. Sleeping pills are habit forming. Melatonin is not.
Whatever you do don't take more than the recommended dose of the Melatonin if you choose to use it. I tried that once, one pill helped me sleep but two pills kept me awake. Another thing the night shift workers used along with the Melatonin was Tylenol PM. A warm glass of milk can be beneficial as well. Avoid caffeine after lunch time too.

I cannot even attempt to prescribe you something to sleep, even over-the-counter without knowing your medical history.
While melatonin may work for some, it is detrimental to others.
All sleeping medications need to be discussed with your doctor after lab work has been taken. LFTs (Liver Function Tests), etc.
There are many OTC meds that may work, but depending on your chemistry you may need a prescription. Please make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this.
The melatonin works for me but I would start at 1 mg. It also comes in a liquid form. Headaches are a side affect. That's why I say start with a tiny bit. Sweet Dreams!
I've successfully used melatonin for well over a year with absolutely no ill effects. I do not get headaches from this. You need to use the sublingual pills that melt under your tongue. I use 1mg pills and put 3 under my tongue at once. I can't get past one hour and I'm asleep.
One time I tried 5 one mg pills at once. It was too much for me and I had to literally sleep it off.
Now I am so attuned to the melatonin that I take it and just go conk out.
There is a book called the Melatonin Miracle that explains this hormone and the wonderful things it does for your body when you are older. I have this book and read it cover to cover and found it fascinating. Our bodies make less melatonin as we age. An infant makes a lot compared to an elderly person. That is why the elderly don't/can't sleep much as this substance is essential to proper rest.
Here is a good link about melatonin that may help answer some of your questions. It also points out that the age of the person has a lot to do with the dosage needed. The younger the person, the lower the dosage.
