Earlier when I started my computer with Windows XP - SP2, it used to scandisc all the drives. Now disc checking has been cancelled. I am also unable to defrag. I tried to run chkdsk /F but it did not work. Any solution?

You probably have some corrupted files on your hard drive you should try again rebooting PC and see if it does the scandisk because this is not a normal procedure:cool:
Files may be corrupted but rebooting won't help. When I adopted My computer> property>tools>scan disc route, scanning could be done on all drives except main drive (where windows XP is installed) where deep scanning option with auto repairs won't take place. Even restarting or rebooting didn't help.
Try booting to your XP CD and use the Repair option.
Backup any important data on this disk, it could be showing signs of failure!
