How do I find out why my Toro 38040 will not move
I have a Toro 38040 with 3 forward and 2 reverse speeds. The engine runs fine. The auger and impeller work fine. The unit will not move in either forward or reverse. I adjusted the traction disc per the instruction manuel. The unit still will not self propel. Does anyone have a repair manuel or know of a site on the web where I can download one?

    Thanks,

    Joe

With the inspection plate still off you can start the engine and engage the drive. The large shinny disc is arttached to the drive shaft and should spin all of the time if the engine is running. When you shift a smaller wheel will rub on that shinny disk, shift to high gear and the small wheel will be out near the larger edge of the disk, shift low and it will move colser to the center of the disk. Do both disks spin when you engage the drive?

Thanks for your help. Both wheels turn with the engine running. When you shift into different gears the vertical wheel moves to different parts of the horizontal wheel. When you rotate the wheels manually with the motor off, the chain moves with their rotation. With the engine running the chain does not engage when you put it into gear.

Thank you for trying. Do you know if there is a shear pin somewhere else than on the wheels?

    Thanks again,

    Joe
