How to correctly add a wye in the middle of pvc main drain line? Is a furnco the only way to do this?

I would prefer to se you use shielded clamps... ;) see picture Do not use the rubber ferncos if possible as they are primarily designed to be used for underground drainage pipes... ok?

Here, install 4 inch pieces of pipe into each end of the wye fitting you will be installing... then lay that down on the pipe you will be cutting into... then mark out length of overall fitting onto the pipe. Now, add 1/2" to each end (mark new marks on the pipe).


Now you cut the longer marks (again, 1" longer than the pipes/fitting itself). Now SLIDE the SS clamps onto the horizontal pipe ends of pipe you just cut and then install the rubber sleeves onto the pipes/fitting.

Fold the rubber sleeves back on themselves and place into position of horizontal pipe. Now, flip the rubber sleeves onto the horizontal pipe, and then slide the SS clamps over the rubbers and tighten up evenly until correctly sealed.

If you make straight cuts you can add only 1/4" to each end..but if crooked go for the 1/2" add on. You need this 1/4" minimum added to each end to accommodate for a slightly crooked cut and for the RIB in the middle of each clamp... ;)

Finally, if you have some play in the pipe and can move up and down you may be able to get away with only using one clamp!! Just FYI.
