Normlly yes, and that amount of time should be listed in the lease.

Most of the time yes. I know in the lease I have with my tenants, it is auto renewing, but we both have the right not to renew with a thirty day notice before the lease experation date.

My tenant has 12mo lease. They sent letter stating they would not be renewing the lease and the end of the 12mo term. What they didn't tell me was that they had already moving out which was 3.5 months before the end of the lease. Neighbors called us... Is it correct that they've broken the lease? We're trying to re-lease the house. Can I charge them for the costs to find a new tenant. We're in IL.
