    Name after marriage in California
I have been married nine months. There was no question about choosing name during ceremony of marriage in Nevada. I have been using my husband name automatically. Can I?

You have to change all of your identification leagally. Your drivers license, visa, passport etc. As far as I know all you need to do that is your marriage certificate, but, I'm not sure.

It seems all the legal experts are off line right now, check back tomorrow, hopefully someone who know the answer will come on line. :)

Hello, yes, you will take your marriage license along with your old birth certificate and perhaps proof of residence ( where you live) to the drivers license department to get a new drivers license. You can get a form and send a copy of the marriage license into social security to get a new card.

You can use the new name, but legally the government does not see it change till you start changing documents

Don't forget to update and monitor your social security ID. That's also important so you get the proper credit.
