Tax for H1-B visa in USA
    Hello,
Can any one help to know, how much I may have to pay as my taxes, when I go with H1-B visa to USA? I would work as a post-doctoral associate, in a university (non-profit).I would be paid 37K per annum plus for my medicare and I may have to stay for four years in USA.

    With best wishes,
    Thiru

Assuming you are single, a $37,000 annual income would result the following taxes (using 2005 tax rates):

    Income taxes: $3,561.
    Medicare taxes: $537.
    Social Security Taxes: $2,294.

Now, you may be exempt from the Medicare and Social Security taxes because you may be considered a student. Check with the university on that.
