Shortening a cast iron sewer cleanout
I have a cast iron sewer cleanout in my front yard that I want to lower by a couple feet due to landscaping. Can I just cut this with a grinder and use a Fernco adapter to attach a new PVC cap housing on? Is there a metal solution? Thanks for ideas.

Sure just cut it. The have a metal vented cap with side screws if you want metal to metal Eliminates fern co etc. Where the old cap?

Yes, you can buy Cast Iron "Blind End Cap". Cut of the pipe as you wish, install Fernco coupling, slip the cap into the other end of coupling, and tighten.

Am I missing something here? Mr. Butler's asking about a sewer main cleanout, (see image) and you guys are treating it like a septic tank vent and advise him to cap it.(see image)
My advice? Cut the cast iron off a few inches underground and install a clean out cover using a shielded metal coupling,(see image) good luck and thanks for rating my answer. Tom
