    Strange nighttime habits
    Hi There
I have a three year old daughter and she has a very strange habit which she has had now on and off for approx a year. She will wake up at anytime in the night and literally langh herself silly for anything up to two hours at a time. Sometimes she doesn't laugh she just squeals then talks for a little while . I have tried questiioning her about it and all she says is she's talking to me. She also does this when she is staying with her Dads at the weekend. She is my only child so I've asked quite a few other mums have any of their children done anything similar they have all said no. I am getting a little bit worried so if there's anybody out there could give me some advice id be very grateful

Is she really awake when she does this? I am the mother of 3 kids and all of them DO talk in their sleep. I think they just are dreaming out loud.

I would be more concerned that she is not fully awake. If she is not fully awake, she might be a prime sleepwalker.

If I were facing this, and she were fully awake, I would try to teach her how to put herself back to sleep. The good news is she can self soothe and keep herself occupied. But now she needs to learn to fall back asleep.

One solution would be to go and lay down with her and tell her she must be still and quiet. Let her come to you and help her with the behaviour to beat this thing. Next, encourage her to do this on her own with out your help. Reward her when she has told you she has woken up and laid very still.

    Good luck!

You either have a sleep walker or a night owl...

I think it's more night owl and you just need to teach her how to put herself back to sleep

Maybe start with a reward system for every time she puts herself back to sleep.

Putting her in your bed may give you more trouble than help
