    Taxes from 1995
Hello. We are trying to deal with the IRS and State (SC) in regards to back taxes from 1995,1996 and 1997. SC has a lien on me and I have been paying each month for over 6 years. How can I view the three years? The government filed them. Thank you, duckettfamily

You can request a copy from the IRS. Be aware it takes time and they charge you for the copies.

Once you get copies, go to a local tax professional and have him review them for accuracy.

Returns prepared by the IRS are ALWAYS filed in the way that produces the MOST taxes. It's possible that, once the correct filing status is factored in and appropriate deductions are taken, you actually were due a refund (which you forfeited by not filing within three years of the original filing deadline).

A competent tax professional can fix such returns by amending them and recovering at least SOME of the payment you have made.

Once that is done, the SC tax returns can be similarly amended.
