Lease agreements and past due rent
Had a friend rent part of my house. We did not have a written agreement, just a verbal agreement for rent. He has now moved out and still owes money and still has stuff in my pole barn. Is this something I could take to small claims court for past money owed or keep his stuff until he pays what is owed. Or am I out of luck because I didn't have him sign anything. I do have copies of checks he has paid for rent. Also this is in Michigan

Oral agreements are admissible - it's just a question, if he denies the terms of the agreement - which one of you is the most believable.

You cannot keep his possessions from him nor can you dispose of them.
