Can I go to college with a GED to become a psychologist? Does anyone have any good information for me on how to approach it and go from there.

Of course you can go to college with your GED. I would suggest starting with a small community college to get your Associates degree, then transfer to a university.

OK, thank you. How many years does that require? I was thinking around eight. But maybe that is way longer than required. Also, do you know pay for psychologists? If it isn't as much as I am thinking maybe I should stick with my job now. I just wan't to be happy with my job too.

The associates degree requires 2 years. A community college saves on tuition and the credits get transferred to a university. Also, if you keep your GPA up, you can become a member of PTK (Phi Theta Kappa International honors Society), scholarships for universities are a saving grace, you can't get PTK in universities.

As for how long the actual psychologist degree takes, I'm not sure, but I can tell you that there is a GREAT demand for psychologists, particularly child psychologists, so I am sure the pay is pretty good.

Make sure that if you go the community college route for your associates that the school you would like to go to for your bachelor's and then your masters (and then your doctorate!) will accept those courses.

Your BEST bet for starting this is to talk to a school that offers a psychology degree about what the requirements for the degree are. Many universities have articulation agreements with SPECIFIC community colleges, so you'd want to check into that as well. If you go to the Psychology Department (or contact them by email or phone) of the universities you are thinking of attending, I'm sure that someone would be able to walk you through the beginning steps.
