    Minor son last name change
    I am getting married soon and my husband to be and I want to chane my son's name to his last name when we gwt married. He is the only father my son knows and we both have been raising him since he was a baby now that my son is older he is always asking for his name to be the same as his step father and my last name when we get married. I want to know what steps to take for this to happen and will this this be a problem

    With the birth father's consent, you go to the court and request the paperwork to change his name. If the birth father agrees, he signs the papers and you file them. There will likely be a filing fee of a few hundred, depending on where you live.

    If the birth father refuses, you can attempt to force the issue, but you would likely need a lawyer.
