    Medicare not deducted
    Hi Everyone.

The company I worked for during most of 08 went out of business in August. I understand other people have had no luck contacting anyone for answers about W2 or anything else. So I have relegated to the fact that I have to prepare taxes without a w2.

I have the amounts for my gross pay, Fica, and Federal Income Tax. I also know that
Gross - (Fica + FIT) = net pay just by looking at my pay stubs.
My question is: would these amounts be the same to what I would see on the W2 if I were to receive one? Also I don't see any Medicare deducted from my gross earnings. That's what's confusing me the most. What happens with that?

Thanks for your time and knowledge.

The amounts on your paystubs usually match your W-2, however there can be exceptions.
Medicare is a component of FICA, so if you see "FICA" but not Medicare, you may be fine.

Gross Subject Wages x 6.2% = Social Security
    Gross Subject Wages x 1.45% = Medicare

Gross Subject Wages = Gross wages + any tax deferred withholdings (for example your contribution to your 401(k))

Do check to see if you live in a state where the disability insurance and/or the unemployment insurance are employee expenses as opposed to employer expenses.

Remember that W-2 do not have to go out to employees until 2/2/09, so I would not proceed using any substitute created from your paystub information until you have given whoever the chance to comply (maybe until around 2/15ish). --SOMEONE, the owner of the company or a responsible person, could theoretically come through for you and your co-workers.
