Blower motor has 4 wires- black, red, purple, green?
Hello again, I am attempting to test the blower motor I have now removed from the furnace still attached in the fan. I noticed the green wire which is obviously the ground was cut off at the bolt it is attached to apparently some time ago. There are three other wires coming out of the motor- Black, Red and Purple(?). If I am going to test this motor directly- do I need to incorporate the purple wire in any way? And yes, HVAC1000 I am somewhat electrically illiterate but, anxious and willing to learn as well as thankful for any help.

It seems like your electrical ability is limited so it might be best for you to call a HVAC contractor to make the repairs.

If you noticed I did not use the word illiterate. I used the word limited.

Look at this diagram it explains it all. When testing a motor you only pick on of the speeds at a time. Usually if you test a motor on one speed the rest of the speeds will work.
Since no voltages were mentioned I will just figure it is a standard furnace blower motor like you might find on a gas furnace.
Look on the right side of the doc. One has a capacitor which is the lower right side. I believe that is the one you will need to use. If you do not have a capacitor run motor that use the one on the top right side.

If the motor seems to not want to start or not run correctly you might have a bad run capacitor. If replacing you have to get the same one as listed for the motor you have. If you decide to replace the motor with new you will have to buy a NEW capacitor for the new motor.

Watch out for your fingers the blades can cut them off. Also watch out for electric it can do worse than the finger thing.
