I tend to have a mild allergic reaction to my cats and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions about how to keep my allergic reactions under control my symptoms are

-coughing (wet cough)
-sneezing
-red, puffy,watery eyes
-kinda hard to breath
-tired

No intentions of getting rid of max and peanut! So don't say to get rid of them, thanks! :)

Non-drowsy Claritin works for some people. Have you had them very long? I ask because I've known people who took Claritin or Benadryl for a few weeks, until their bodies adjusted and the symptoms went away for good.

Don't allow them to sleep on your bed. Wash your hands after petting them. Vacuum frequently. Try an ionizer.

Bathing them may help with the dander... Wreeoow! Probably not their first choice!

I just called a friend who has allergies and three cats. The first words out of her mouth when I asked what she does were "Wash my hands a lot". She vacuums and mops a lot, and she uses two air purifiers. She keeps one in her room because she hasn't the heart to keep them off the bed. Here she says it helps to have a few old blankets to cover the bed and just rotate them frequently (although she does keep them away from the pillows "inasmuch as that can be done"). So simoneaugie got it. Also, brush them regularly.

When her allergies flare up, she takes Claritin. She says the flare ups aren't don't occur too often, but are more frequent in winter months.

In addition to the fine answers that you've already received, I would like to say that there are vacuums with special filters designed for pet hair and dander.

Also, have you spoken with your parents about this problem?

My dad is allergic and my mom and I talk about it sometimes, and any suggestions for how to keep them off my pillow, my cat peanut loves to sleep on pillows and I can't keep him out of my room because that would be too hard :) plus he would just sneak back in my room anyway lol

I know that it might sound mean, but if you try knocking them off your pillow a number of times, generally, animals will get the idea and learn where it's not okay for them to be.

Cats love to sleep on "padding." Try covering your pillow with a towel. Then when you plan to go to bed, move the towel.

Hey everyone thanks for the help! I went to the doctor today and it is official, I do have an allergie to cats, and he said I can take clairtin d for it, and I have to go through my room and clean EVERYTHING and I have to keep the cats out :( oh well it for my health, but anyway thanks for the advice!
