    Want to identify a pill
I have a circular pill with one side with "barr" and the other side is scored with 555/489 and the pill is slightly off white and smaller than a dime.

    Hi, gma2caleb!

To be really sure of what it is, please take it to a pharmacist who can see you and it in-person, visit with you about it and dispose of it properly, if that's needed.

I'd like to help you. However, you don't know me and I don't know you. I could use an online drug identification site or maybe even an in-hand drug reference of some kind to make an educated guess, but I'm human and I could make a mistake and I wouldn't want to take the risk of me being incorrect about the identification of it, would you?

For someone, other than a pharmacist who can see a pill in person, to advise a person as to the positive identification of a pill, would seem to me to be an irresponsible thing to do.

This isn't a site that's designed specifically for the identification of pills. To discuss medications is one thing. To be identifying them, is another thing altogether.

    Thanks!

artlady agrees: I know it's risky but at least this site will give a proper designation of the pill.
I know that the particular site that you provided a link to is specifically designed for that purpose, and I've suggested that site to many people here. I've since changed my perspective on that, though. Plus, in many instances, we don't really know why someone is wanting to know. The reasons for wanting to know may be hidden or disguised.

Even though that site might be specifically designed for that purpose, we can't be sure that it might be correct, and really, neither can the people asking the questions because it's not a pharmacist who can see the pill or pills in question in person.

But nonetheless, it would be better for a site specifically designed for such a purpose to be taking the possible liability risk of providing such information, rather than this site that's not specifically designed for such a purpose.

    Thanks!

I don't care why they want to know. They need to know and that all that matters.

I'm not encouraging drug use but I believe it is better to know what you are taking than not.

I will always encourage anyone ,if you feel the need to do any drug, know what you are taking. Be smart.

That site is correct with its information.

If people use the information improperly.. that is not my problem but at least I have guided you to a place that tells you what you want to know.

If you want to talk about addiction,I can do that too.

If someone asks what a pill is what do you say ? Why do want to know ? O.K. I get that someone may take it but what about the fact that someone may not if they know what it is and what about the people who just really find a pill and want to know what it is?

I always respect your thoughts Clough and so I will continue.

I would like a Moderator to make a decision on this. If this site is specifically not for any pill ID purposes I would like to see that clearly posted at the head of the site before I personally spend any more time and energy looking up ID information.

Does "I've since changed my perspective on that, though. Plus, in many instances, we don't really know why someone is wanting to know. The reasons for wanting to know may be hidden or disguised" mean that AMHD has changed policy, this is your personal opinion, as an expert on this Board you have made a decision about ID'ing "pills? I don't know that anyone on ANY thread ever knows the true reason behind the question, also.

I personally see no difference between "I think this is X but check only a Pharmacist can tell you 100%" and "This is the law but only an Attorney can tell you 100%." Same with any other medical (or legal) information. I can right at this moment find 10 posts on the medical thread which, if this is the policy of AMHD, clearly give a diagnosis or treatment options. They would all appear (under this policy) to be inappropriate.

I think some credit has to be given to the OP, credit that he/she isn't going to say, "Oh, OK," and pop it into his/her mouth.

On the other hand, I am certainly not an expert on this Board and don't have any say in policy. I would just like to know AMHD's position.
