    Singer #457 sewing machine
I have a 457 Stylis sewing machie. I sent away for the manual for this machine but its not exactly describing this machine. My machine has a knob on the right front with three letters printed on it. These letters are L... D... R... When I turn the knob it doesn't seem to do anything.

    Hi, richj!

I'm sorry that no one has come along to address your question!

When you turn the knob, what is it supposed to do, please?

    Thanks!

Hi Clough, Thank you for the response to my question. I found the answer to the question . This knob adjusts the dogs, dogs are the little serations under tha cloth that push the material as the needle pushes the thread and makes the stitch. The d position is for down, the f is the middle position, the r is the highest position.
Now I'm trying to time the machine since the bevel gear that runs the vertical shaft that connects the drive belt that runs the hook under the bobin broke and now is replaced. The timing has to be perfect I'm told so I going on line to find out how to do this. Thank you for your interest. Rich
