50 pounds weight loss in one month: IMPOSSIBLE?
Basically, I'm an over-weight teenager who is wanting to lose 50 pounds in one month so badly. I don't really believe in diet pills and lyposunction. Those are never my options. I'm thinking about exercising but will that help? I mean, is it impossible to lose 50 pounds in one month? If you have the answer... please tell me.

    THANKS!

Ok for the average human beings that is IMPOSSIBLE!

For those individuals who are used to cutting weight then yes it can be done. But you don' fall within that percentile. So I say IMPOSSIBLE.

Don't let this get you down though, while setting a goal at 50 may be excessive try setting it to 10. I figure you have something happening in a month like prom or something but 10 pounds is better then 0 pounds.

Motivation for losing weight should not be a dance (assuming it's a dance)
It should not be a girl (assuming it's a girl)
It should not be for any reason other then you wanting to for you with health being an exception.

Exercise anyway, it may take 6 months to lose that 50 pounds it might take 1 year but when that day comes that you lost 50 pounds, it will all have been worth it!

    Good Luck!

Wow. For 1 month? That is... impossible...
But if u want to lose some weight... excercise is the key. Don't force yourself to lose 50 pounds for 1 month. CONTINUOUS exercise and control of your eating habits is what you need :) trust me. It works.

It is not impossible, but ABSOLUTELY unhealthy, and can lead to some serious health issues. The average is 2 - 5 pounds a week, this is a healthy average.

And, remember, when working out you will start to gain weight and lose inches first. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Agree! Very very very unhealthy to even try!

I agree with the above, losing that much weight in a short amount of time would probably hurt more than it would help and then be gained right back.

The main advice for losing weight that I've heard is doing cardio for about half an hour or more each day (the aerobic classes at the gym can be more fun than running on the treadmill), eating more than three meals a day (having snacks in between like nuts and eggs for protein), and slowly eating healthier. Changing a little bit at a time will help more than drastically changing your diet because it will be easier to stick with it. Don't get discouraged if you're not losing as much as you want as fast as you want, getting someone to work with you will help a lot.

    hi, kc_borja24

You'll need to setup a plan and follow through (long time).
the most I ever lost in one month 13lb in one month and over 3 month 40lb. By the way that was with only 1 session per week 4 - 7 hours of bicycling.

50 lb would be possible in 3.5 month and that would be a healthy way and it would stay off you for a long time.

If you where able to loose 50lb in 1 month the skin would be looking very damaged so when doing workout's to loose fat the body has to regenerate skin remove fat and strengthening your muscles. (look at people getting a fat suction they need to remove the skin as well.

So get started doing some workouts (Biking, Running) I'll recommend you to start on the bike and see if you can build up to go 120km per week when you're getting better you can properly do 25k/h so that 4.8 h * 1000cal = 4800cal a week.
Do this for 1 month then later increase the distance for the 2nd month and then in 3 month you can start running as well.

If you do start running then you might end up getting injured

It is virtually impossible and not healthy at all. Your goal should be 2-3 pounds a week.

Very unhealthy, caused so many health problems I lost 30 lbs in one month and gained in back almost double now I have lost 30 lbs since October, cardio, 1 hour on treadmill, 20 minutes on Eliptical, light weight training and eating 4 to 5 small meals a day with protein after each workout, and you know what I am so much happier and healthier now... My husband really motivates me as well, we also workout sometimes together as he is a Natural body builder so he is really fit and in shape.I belong to Life Time fitness, ( wonderful Gym.. A gym gives you that extra since of understanding and motivation see others work out and striving for the same thing you are.. )as my husband always said to me a quick fix is never permant... So lose the weight for you and not for any other reason... I say this with love and prayer...

I don't think its health. Its nice to lose weight slowly and don't gain it back easily.

People who crash diet commonly put all the weight, and more, back on within a year or two.

You believe you have weight to lose. Fine.

Why would it be a failure to not hit your target in a month? Is there a trip (spring break) or dance or some event planned?

One of the best ways to lose weight is not to focus on the overall amount all the time, but to address it in increments... that first 10 lbs... for ex.

So... if you start today you might find yourself well on the way to losing that weight... even if you haven't shed the lbs you want to, you'll have your body primed and amped to lose that weight... if you haven't been on a consistent exercise routine, I think its very common for you to need a few weeks to "break in" your body... and many believe a habit, such as regular exercise, takes 6-8 weeks to establish.

So... don't be frustrated that this weight loss in this time is pretty unrealistic, unhealthy, and unsustainable... if you honestly want to lose this weight, you can. Just don't set yourself up for "failure" with unrealistic expectations.

My cousin, after several years of weight gain in her HS and college years, has lost over 60 lbs this last year. She looks great, feels great, and is completely on her way to living a healthy and active life... but it took time, discipline, and a real plan...

So why not start today? 5-10 lbs can be possible in that time and that alone can change how you feel, how your clothes fit, etc...

So what's up with the one month timeline?

The original expectation is way, way off the range of anything that could be healthy. For starters, crash dieting is awful for your heart. You're also a teen, which might mean that you're still growing. Your brain is still developing. This is not the time to be playing drastic games with your body.

    What is your starting weight/height/sex/age?

Someone suggested that losing 2-5 pounds a week is a healthy average; however, unless you're talking about someone who's starting a plan at a level of real obesity, losing 2-5 pounds a week is really on the high end of any weight loss goals. 5 pounds a week is a whole lot of weight to lose. Think about it: one would have to be burning an extra 3,500 calories almost every day. It would also work out to a little over 20 pounds a month. A pound a day is not normal, healthy weight loss.

Although it may seem tough to hear, the real recommendation by most nutritionists is actually between 1 and 2 pounds per week for maintaining healthy weight loss that will keep the pounds off for good.

Whenever someone comes here to write about wanting to lose a large amount of weight in a very short period, it's usually because they have some special event coming up, and they run into an anxiety about desperation, looking for miracles, and hurting inside. I feel for you. What will be happening in your life at your initial goal date?

Use this time to start breaking bad habits, building healthy exercise routines, addressing food differently, looking better, and feeling better in general. If you do have a special event coming up, you can release some of your anxiety by also pampering yourself in other ways. Pick up a new figure flattering dress and a hot pair of shoes to match. Get your hair done. Get a mani and a pedi. Treat yourself to a massage, get a little tan, pick up some new makeup... anything that will make you feel more confident in your body.

Also, the more you take care of yourself in other ways, the easier it will be to stick to a healthy weight loss plan that will keep you slim and healthy for the rest of your life.

Studies suggest the maximum SAFE weight loss in one week is 2 pounds.

Depending on how overweight you starting a new weight loss program will see drastic results in the beginning. If you have been eating badly and not exercising you will notice a loss of anywhere up to 8 pounds in the first week if you make the necessary changes. This is because the body loses a lot of water in that time. Otherwise 2 pounds a week is a realistic target.
