Please help me. I have this problem. I have an older computer running xp with service pack 2. my verizon dsl modem works fine when ever I plug it into my xbox or my computer. I always have the internet. So then I got a brand new belkin router for christmas, wonderful I would think at the time. I've followed all the instuctions, and the icons on the router will all light up. But for some reason, my computer and my router will not talk to each other. At first belkin told me I needed to set my modem to bridge mode. So I called my isp and than did that. Then I called belkin back. Even with my modem bridged, nothing works. Belkin ended up telling me that either my routers is a piece, or there is something wrong with my computer. So I ended up calling my isp back just so I could get my modem out of bridge mode, just so I could use the internet. If any one can help that would be more than appreciated. Thanks

Well the first and most mistaken step is too see if your router supports your OS. (which it does support XP so your fine there),

Second is too make sure you've followed the instructions to the T (which I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say you did)

After that I need a little more info before I steer you in any direction, are you connecting the computer to the router wirelessly ( I would assume so) or with a cable. If you're trying wirelessly then try to hook a cable to the router from the computer. (this will assure your router is not "a piece")

Also what do you mean it won't TALK to your router. Your PC won't recognize the network, or what!

Routers never need to support the OS unless your trying to use PnP. Unfortunately PnP won't work very well when using the bridge mode configuration.

There are a lot of missing pieces, for instance:
Verizon modem model
Belkin Router model

The WAN port of the router has to be connected to the modem port.

The modem has to be in bridge mode and you need to disable DHCP in the modem or the router. Modem preferred. Only the router should serve an IP address lease.

As you know, putting the modem in bridge mode is no easy task.

Two DHCP servers will cause MAJOR problems.

Can we assume that you know how to get to the configuration pages to both the modem and the router?

Unless your computer/router/modem has an Auto-midx port you have to sometimes use a crossover cable.
