    Recommended family room size
Is there a recommended minimum size for a family room? I am planning an addition that hopefully will result in a 19' x 15' family room. Current city ordinances may reduce this to 19' x12'. Does 12' sound too narrow?

    Hi, greg conn!

I don't think that 12' sounds to narrow, but it would depend on what else is in the room and how many people that you would like to accommodate in it.

What are some of things that you plan to have in the room, please?

    Thanks!

In my experience a lot of these rooms are oversized, but depending on what you want to do in there... ping pong and pool can require a good share of space..

You should see what the limits are in that area and design your room addition on that if you want a good idea of what it will look like download a copy of Google sketch up for free its pretty easy to use, but 19' 12' from inside wall to inside wall won't be that narrow, depending on the lay out of you house
