Recovering from rocky mountain spotted fever
My dog is recovering from rocky mountain spotted fever she got last spring '08. She is not gaining weight and is lethargic, but she does try to keep up with the other dogs for awhile.
Can anyone give me advice on how to improve her situation. She is off the meds, and I do give her supplements for her liver and extra food. Thanks

    tickle

From what I understand of dogs contracting this disease, it is a long hard trail back up to complete health. It hits humans the same way who have a difficult time getting better.

You don't say how much she is eating, and I still wouldn't press it. She/he could be getting tired of the same old dog food. What type of dog food does she get though ? You say her general activity is good and that is a great sign to becoming a healthy dog again. You also don't say what kind of dog, what she weighs and her age.

I have checedk out all the available sites but they all have information that is inconclusive in the long run. They do say that ticks may reappear if you are in the same area and care should be taken to inspect your dog's coat, taking care to wear gloves because you could contract this too.

    Sorry I can't say more.

My dog is 12 yrs old. I switched dog foods from Nature's Recipe to Iams Active. She gets two cups per day in her bowl, but she shares bowls of food with other dogs and can possibly eat more if she wants too. I tried feeding her extra treats, but it doesn't stay in her system for long. I feel like her body doesn't want to store calories.

She should be 48-50 lbs. but weighs 43 lbs.
