What information do I need when shopping for a computer for a 1999 Chevy Cavalier from used auto-parts dealers?

Of course the year, make , and model. Also the VIN and possibly the engine size.

The part no. off the old computer. Make sure the part no. on the new ECM is an exact match. Remove the negative battery cable before removing or installing the ECM.

I have a 1999 chevy cavallier sedan.I went for a vehicle inspection and failed because the OBD system readiness status shows that the fuelsystem and comprehensive component are not ready. They say I should have the computer checked. Can the problem be solve by having the computer reset or do I have to replace the computer?
