I have a newly acquired Dell Optiplex GX260 with 512 mg of ram. It has had a clean install and when I connected my external speakers I got the usual light buzzing sound from them but the PC says "no audio drivers". Could this be because of the clean install? Secondly how do I install new drivers if that is the problem?

By a clean install, I'm taking it you Formatted and Reinstalled Windows. In this case you will need to install the audio drivers, they would have come on a separate CD/DVD. Usually the Windows CD would install some default drivers, but in your case they were not sufficient.

I bought the PC off eBay from a firm that specialises in refurbished Dell pc's. They told me the op has been wiped clean before install.
I no longer have the software thet came with the speakers.
When I went in to device manager I then went to Other
Devices and multi media controller showed up with a yellow exclamation mark.
I cannot get hold of the seller yet to find out what he did. There was no software with the PC either.

In device mgr where you see the yellow mark, right click and choose uninstall and say OK. Now close all windows and restart the PC

On restart windwos will see you have an audio device and install a generic driver for it

When back in windows, go back to device mgr to see if yellow mark comes back or not - if not you should be OK

-If yellow mark comes back next to device, post exactly what device is listed next to the yellow mark

In meantime, if not working go to link posted above and on that page go down to Audio where you will see 2, click that and it will open up to 2 files to download

-Where is says Analog Devices - Driver, to the right of that you will see Download Now, Click that and download the driver to your hard drive

-Once downloaded to your hard drive, run the program you downloaded - R56339.exe and follow the install

From here see what you can do as this is the driver you need and once installed, the yellow mark should go away

I have downloaded R56339 and unzipped it. Where do I go from here.

Where you unzipped it, look for exe file and run to see what info comes up

If no exe file there, what files were extracted

All I have got is Address... file:C:///C:/... R56339. This contains 25 files. Do you want me to list them?

Just list the exe files and if no exe files, list inf files

They are;
Migrate, Sys, adminchk.dll, data1, data2, ikernal, nocompi,readme, RemADI, Setup, SoundMax, win256_3, SMAXWDM, ADIAL TGD, AEEnable, data1.hdr, data tag, layout, nocompu, README, setup, setup, SMAX3CP, and Version.

Well definitely read read the readme file and I am pretty sure running setup should do the job

You have 3 setup files, if just 1 is an exe file, that should do it
