Mold in a pipe or hot water heater?
We live in an apartment and all of a sudden, we smell mold when we turn on the hot water in the bathroom. The hot water from the sink and shower both smell moldy. The bathroom is kept clean and free of mold and mildew. We have tried bleaching the tub, sink, and drains, but the mold seems to be in the hot water coming out of the pipes.

This is a new one for me. Can mold live in a pipe or hot water heater. If so, how do we combat it?

    Thanks for your help!

How old is your water heater?

Your may have problem with the anode rod, Thanks.

It's not mold, but rather a sulfur smell. The anode rod in your water heater may need to be changed to a different material See this for more info:

What if the smell is coming from one sink only? One of my bathroom sinks smells moldy when I turn the hot water on. I tried baking soda but didn't help.

Remove the stopper shine a light (flash light) look inside and see if there is any hair remove it, also try some bleach leave it over night in the morning flush 2 pans of boiled water, see if that will help.

If the above would not help then the mold is inside the sink cavity and the smell is coming out of the sink overflow see the image below, come back and I will show you how to clean, good luck.
