I want to cover the brick on my fireplace with a simple procedure either with tile or maybe some kind of material that I could simply paint or put a faux finish on either faux tile or marble or other choices of faux finishes. I haven't a lot of money so this would be a least expensive project for me.

There's a couple of different ways to attack this.

For tile finish use a 1/2 cement hard board and glue and tapcon that to the face of the fireplace and ready to tile or marble

Tap con screw galv. Stucco wire mesh on to face and use mortar to parge over wire and do a textured finish and seal and paint.

Use Tap con screw and caulk adhesive to hang 5/8 fire rated drywall and compound finish seal and paint

Just paint the brick?

So what's are you leaning to here.

Tile will need a backer board for a good job.

If you are going to paint it then a fire rated drywall can work here ( check local codes for that)

Or use stucco wire and use mortar to go over wire. Mortar has several possibilities in color and texture finish.

The cheapest is the drywall then the stucco then tiling.

Tap cons is masonry/concrete screw to apply sheeting to masonry in conjunction with caulk adhesive
