Here is my problem, My dad and my mom don't let me have sleepovers a lot. So I want to ask them why they don't let me and why can't I have them, but every time I start on the subject they always say they are tired of hearing me complaine, and at school everyone is always talking about when and who they are having a sleepover. How do I talk to my parents and what do I say. Please please please help:(:(:(:(:(:(

I somewhat feel your pain, as my parents wouldn't let me have sleepovers or let me go to sleepovers when I was a kid. Now that I'm a bit older, and I have a kid brother who is in the same situation, I somewhat understand. These are my reasons:

1. Liability. I know it sounds silly, but if ANYTHING ever happened to the kids whenever they're at the home of someone else, the parents of the sleepover are held relatively responsible. Again, this sounds ridiculous, but what if someone fell down a flight of stairs and broke their neck? That would be pretty bad.

2. Rides. I am assuming you guys aren't old enough to drive, so that means you have to drop them off, pick them up, etc.

3. If you're having a sleepover, this means your parents would have to provide the food, entertainment, and it'd be somewhat of a chaperoning trip for them. After work, all parents want to do is relax, not watch after a group of kids.

I say, wait for a little bit. In a few weeks/months, if another sleepover comes up, I suggest you figure out small details, such as rides, food, entertainment, etc. Also, find out a time when your parents aren't stressed or really busy. Then propose this idea to them. Tell them a strict time you guys will go to sleep, who will drop them off, etc. and the works. I feel that your parents may be impressed.

It's not that your parents don't want you to have fun. They just know that you'll have plenty of fun later in life, so why not take it slow?

I never had any at all, and never was allowed to go.

My boys have very few and did not go to many.

It was OK for a special event once in a while, but to be honest, it is not the end of the world if and when they happen.

Probanly for the same reason none of your friends have them.

Why not see if their parents will have one every now and then.

Make sure your parents know the people who are inviting you to a sleepover.

My two oldest, since they were about 11, have been able to go to sleepovers no problem. They know that all I want to know is who/what/where/when and at least give me a days notice to make sure were not doing anything that night.
My next child is 8 and I would let him stay over at his best friends houses but their parents our my best friends so that's kind of different.

Your only at the age were kids start having proper sleepovers, it doesn't matter if you're a few years late with having sleepovers. Your parents will come round, be good, help out and show them they can trust you. Make sure they know your willing to ring them hourly if that's what it takes.


And just saying, my oldest isn't 11, he's now 15.
