Ask Me Help Desk - 6 week old won't be put down

My 6 week old will noy be put down, she falls asleep on me but only ever sleeps for 10 minutes at a time except at night then she's quite good, she over feeds out of comfort and squirms a lot and crys out in pain, she got a lot of bottom wind and has hiccups lots, I'm confused as to what's up, is it colic, reflux or gas and what can I do, I have a 20mth old who needs me and suffeer from pnd, help , she never used to be like this had the odd couplke of days but now is all the time, loves it on the floor though she seems to like hard surfaces, what can it be and what can I do for her

You say she over feeds... why do you over feed her? How much are you feeding her at one sitting?

I give my baby sugar water for hiccups.. it makes them go away instantly.. its hard for me to get him to sleep also sometimes.. I don't let him fall asleep on me or he will wake up also.. I usually lay him down with a bottle or pacifier and let h I'm hold my finger for few minutes.. unitll he drifts off.. it usually takes a good hour for him to stay asleep so I still need some help also! You can try this though

You can put 2 dropperfuls of Mylicon in the bottle and give your baby a dropplerful afterwards, which may help with the gassiness... it is best to stick with 1 formula until your baby's stomach gets used to it, changing formulas over and over again will only make the situation last longer... as far as sleeping, I have no good adivce, mt 1st child slept on my chest, in the recliner EVERY NIGHT until he was almost 11 months old and my second slept through the night from day 1 at home in her bassinet and then immediately in her crib... ask for help from husband/partner/family, you never know until you ask and most are usually willing to help, but they do not want to intrude... the good news is that you will eventually sleep, it just may not be for a while... good luck..

Never, ever, put your baby to sleep with a bottle. Never lay him/her down with a bottle... this is a recipe for a dental disaster as well as setting him up for multiple ear infections.

SO , when you hold your baby and feed them.. its not laying down?? Or what's the difference.. I mean SUPERVISED... until he falls asleep... then I take it away..?

"Laying down" means flat in a crib on on a bed or couch.

Yeah but someone said never ever put baby asleep with bottle.. as in laying down.. but when I hold him and feed him he is laying down.. ibecasue of the ear infection and teeth problems... ts the same whether he is in bed or in my arms.. I didn't say I let him sleep with the bottle all night or anything.. if that's what they meant.. but it's the only way to get him to sleep without holding him.. and sometimes that doesn't work.. he is a pretty fussy baby... any more suggestions by the way? This is my 3rd but.. with the first one I rocked him to sleep for oh about a year.. didn't do it with the second.. thats when I started putting her to bed before she was asleep.. but not working as well this time around..

As you are noticing, every baby is different. And the stages last a few weeks or even a few months.

Warm a blanket in the dryer and swaddle (wrap him snugly with arms inside the blanket), then hold him and rock him or just lay him down in his bed. Set him in a carrier on top of a turned-on clothes dryer (but watch him -- don't leave! ) or take him for a ride in the car. The vibrations and droning noise may put him to sleep (it's what my parents did for me). Buy one of those white noise machines that make a droning noise and turn it on when he's to go to sleep, or play soft music (classical or new age?).

Well, for me, some of those options defeats the purpose of not having him rely on a certain way to get to sleep.. as in the car ride for example.. when I take him out and put him in bed he will wake up.. the swaddle thing doesn't work for him anymore.. he just kicks the blanket apart you know.. he has a toy attatched to the crib that plays music and melodies and lights up and has a projection on the ceiling.. that doesn't work either! This kid is challenging me! I've never had this much trouble.. well I guess I did with the first one but I just gave into his rocking him every night and car rides!! I'm trying to avoid all that! I even let him try to cry it out for a few minutes.. after I'm assured he doesn't need anything else! Anyway this is someone else's 'thread' right.. im new.. I need to start my own.. I was trying to help her and my situation got worse!
