Being served papers for unpaid debt balance
I got a call from a collection company and the man told me if I didn't pay a certain amount by Wednesday (today is monday) I would be served papers and assigned a collection attorney in my county. Can anyone tell me what will happen next? I'm so scared and nervous!!

Have you received any correspondence from this particular collection agency before? What is the debt for? When was the last payment you made on it? He may just be trying to scare a payment out of you so that the statute of limitations can be renewed; I've had some friends deal with some pretty shady debt collectors.

Yes I have been receiving phone calls but have been unable to make anytype of payments due to doctor bills for my son and your everyday bills as well.

What state do you live in and how old is the debt? When was the very last payment made?

If they are going to take this to Court there is little you can do to stop them - other than paying the debt which I wouldn't do without knowing more info.

This8384 is right - the "age" of the debt, activity on the account, all of those things matter, as well as what State - ?
