    Malfunctioning ceiling fan/light
I have a Hampton Bay remote control ceiling fan with lights. It has worked fine for about 4 years but recently, whenever power is applied to the fan (with the wall switch), the light continually cycles from off to dim to bright and off again. The remote control has no effect on operation. I have dissassembled the fan and see no signs of a short. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the button on the remote is stuck. Does it still do this if you remote the batteries from the remote?

No, it does the same thing, and the remote has an indicator light that illuminates when a button is pressed and this appears to be working as advertised.

Something must have internally shorted in the receiver. This is quite rare I've never heard of that happening before. Normally they are stuck on or off. Replace the receiver.
