    Sewer smell coming from basement
We built a house 2 yrs ago and had a bathroom roughed into the basement. Since day 1 there has been a strong sewer smell coming from the basement and we recently found out that the builders didn't put a cover over the piping down there and they said that aren't required to do so. Has anyone ever heard of this? Isn't that toxic?

You bet your bippy it is! The plumber left you with direct open conections from the city sewer into your home allowing sewer gas to enter. Sewer gas's a health hazard to your family and the methane content makes it explosive.
Have the openings capped off at once . Goodluck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

Agree with Tom: sewer vapors are certainly health hazard. Sewer pipes should be capped off immediatelly...
