Diverting Sump Pump with Sewer System Overwhelmed
In mid-October (2008) there was a lot of rain (more than the sewer system in my area could handle). There was no place for the water to go (my sump empties to the sewer system). This flooded my unfinished basement. I figured out a way to divert the sump pump by using the hose from my shop vac, the plumber's clamps (or whatever they're called) wrapped around it, out a window to some scrap 5' PVC pipes that the former owners of the house had left. This allowed me to get the water to empty just past the end of the house. This is not a bad system, if I do say so myself.
The day after Christmas (2008) the area had an unseasonable thaw with a lot of rain. Well, guess what? The sump system was a little overwhelmed again. Not to the point it was in October but enough to make me want to divert again. This, again, worked fine.
But I must say that the single chick that I am I'm a little tired of trying to tighten those plumber's clamps. I end up stabbing my hand while trying to get it diverted and then back together again (right now there is a steady drip from the rubber gasket at the top part of the pipe to sewer). Is there a better set up I could have that would just snap in place a little easier than the way it's set up now? Or, maybe, better tools?
