The house I live in was piecemealed together by the people that owned the place. We are slowly but surely finding all sorts of things they did wrong. One thing we have discovered is our septic tank is apparently under the addition they built. The house is offgrade except for the addition. I think we need the tank pumped but I'm not sure if this is possible. HELP!:confused:

caution pumping out the tank could not be good if let dry and not used anymore. If the ground around it gets a lot of rain water it could try to float. I just had to throw a warning sticker hear.
Its against code in my area for basic 1+1=2. Any sewer gas confined in a habitat dwelling is a BIG health hazard. The other no brainier is access to pump out. My professional opinion is to get a new correctly sized tank to current structural requirements and set a new tank away from the house min here is 10 feet away form structure.. The other reason is the newer tanks have a much better baffle system to break down the solids and not put the drain field in jeopardy for premature solids released before broken down. I would pump the old tank back flush it good and fill it up with crushed stone or sand sand or block fill conc cap Get rid of pitfall. The proper way to 100% pump out a tank is take the cap off for more access. The traditional way is to put pump hose down the plastic pipe above lid and the pump can't get a lot of solids especially if its caked hard on the sides the pump can't reach. You really need to "break into the floor to pump properly. Someone might have run a clean out access to it but I doubt it.
