    Murray riding mower will not charge battery
    We have a 2003 15.5 HP Murray Riding Lawn Mower that does not charge the battery.
    We have checked all connections and grounding points which did make a noticeable difference. We have installed a new starter solenoid, correctly. We have a good 14 volts dc output from the stator but only 10 volts ac output from the stator. Should there be at least 14 volts ac output also?

    Explain?:

    There should be very little AC output. AC output suggests bad diodes. Are you sure the 10 isn't 1.0?

    Hi,
    Depending on where you are measuring, The AC output should actually be about 26V and the DC output should be over 15, usually.
    Please supply point of measurement and appearance of connectors?

    I am sure that the needle was very near the 10 increment.

    We measured the dc voltage at the connector below the stator, and we measured the ac voltage at the connector below the diode.
    But we never got close to 26v ac.

    As for the connectors appearance, they are clean. We replaced them last year.

    Hi,
    Sorry, but I meant the physical shape of the connectors. Different stators use different shapes to distinguish outputs.

    The diode is round and may be 1/4" long.

    Hi,
    Well, I did not ash about the diode, but since you tell me it has a diode; it should be attached to a red wire and shrink-wrapped. It means that the system can only be a 3 Amp system at best. It should be tested for resistance in only one direction with an Ohmeter.
