    Remote car starter
Can I switch a remote car starter from one car to another?

Mechanically I think it can be done but I'm not sure if the remote itself is programmed for a certain car.

    Thanks

    Is is possible? Yes.
    Should you do it? No.

A remote car starter splices into many wires, adds relay interlocks and is connected to several circuits in your fuse panel. This is all accomplished in a very tight space.

It is very likely that the car from which it is removed from will always have wiring problems.

If you do not have the original wiring diagram that was marked up during the remote starter installation, not only will you have to contend with the mess from removing the starter from the original car, you probably won't have the proper information to install it into another car (not to mention existing wires may not be long enough, different car makes have different power hook-up, etc.).

Is this a factory installed starter or an after market one. There are plenty of after market products that are DIY. Some come with videos showing how to install them.

If this is a factory installed starter, then I would not try to move it. However, if its after market, you may be able to obtain the instructions from the manufacturer to uninstall and reinstall.
