I woke this morning with a swollen vein in the palm of my left hand. The location is about 1 inch below the end of my pointer finger. There is a swollen area approx half inch in diameter with a raised area approx 1/4 inch that appears to be the color of a vein.It is circular. The area would be exactly opposite the knuckle on the other side of my hand. The surrounding swollen area is slightly tender to the touch but the part swollen the most with the discoloration hurts to touch. Any ideas ?

It could be a broken blood vessel, or perhaps a clot. You need to get this checked by your Doctor.
