I want to apply for a job in the local county appraiser's office... but am not sure if that position requires me to be bonded. I am a convicted felon? But probation has been served and am in the process of having record expunged.

Hello millbe:
Call up a couple bonding agents and insurors and see if you can purchase a bond. However, I'd get interviewed first cause you might not get the job. Plus, that's where you'll find out the details of the bond if you need one.
Of course, you don't think they're NOT going to find out about your record, do you? An expungement hides your record from the PUBLIC - not the government.

Generally felons are excluded from any county, state or government jobs through a background check.
The conviction will show on a Government background check.
If you need to be bonded the employer handles that for you - as far as I know in a Government job you do NOT provide your own bonding because the Government has certain requirements concerning dollar amounts and procedure.
Yes having it explunged will not help when going to work for the government, it will always show up them them.
Also do they require a specific bonding company, you will have to find out their rules
