    Pink eye?
It looks like my dog has pink eye, poor baby couldn't even open it this morning, crusted shut! It went from one or two spots of discharge yesterday to full blown over night. My question is, can pink eye pass from dog to a person? I am washing my hands every time I touch her, but wondering if I should disinfect the whole house. Thanks in advance.

I don't see you disinfecting the whole house and once she's on antibiotics she will improve rapidly but, yes, it is contagious and you have to be careful.

Are you sure it's pinkeye and not some other type of eye infection?

Not positive... but I have an appointment this afternoon with a local vet who has Sunday hours. Not our regular vet - but I didn't want to wait until tomorrow. I'm a kindergarten teacher and have seen lots of pink eye, lol, it sure looks like it. I know how common pink eye is in dogs, so I am assuming. :)

Nothing to do with this question but your dog looks enough like MY dog to be a twin. What breed?

    Mine is Gordon setter/German Shepherd/Rott.

I'd post a photo if I could figure out how to do it - other than in my signature.

She's a rottie mix. About 45 pounds and a big chicken, totally submissive to everyone and everything - including my class pet, a Guinea pig.

UPDATE - just back from the vet - pink eye as suspected. She stained the eyes to check the corneas and no scratches or injuries. Got the ointment, should do the trick in a few days. Vet said while it is possible to spread to humans if it is bacterial (which we don't know) - she said it still likely will not. For the most part "dog bacteria do not like humans and vice versa". (her words)

Hmm - my Vet lied to me.

What a cutie! She got such friendly eyes! I got a Mrs. Claus dress and hat for Niki... I know, I'm a little nuts.. LOL! But she just looks so darn cute! I'll have to try and post some pics after C'mas. I don't know how to do it either Judy! :o

I'm glad your dog got into the vet and was treated. I've never had a dog with pink eye, but that doesn't sound like it's fun for your fur babe. :( At least she's got something, and hopefully it will clear up soon. Why does it always seem that these things happen to our dogs on a wkd. or at some crazy hr of the night?

I don't know how to post photos either so now she's my "signature" photo - sleeping on the brand new sofa!

That's better than I can do! Alty had to post mine for me... LOL!

Teachnk, I wish I knew more about pink eye and if you need to worry about yourself and your kids. Hopefully the vet knew what she was talking about, and you don't really need to worry too much.

When you go to answer question, above the text box, click on the little picture with the mountains. Then you can select the picture file. It will insert the picture in your reply.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. No promises... LOL! You're talking to a girl that until about 6 months ago, didn't know how to copy and paste! Hahaha! I suck when it comes to this stuff. Once I figure it out on my own, it's simple. But until then, it's all greek to me! ;)

Actually if you ever had anything to back up your repeated "I disagree, I disagree" someone might actually care if you disagree or not.

And this is a revenge reddie - now I'll show you just how a double revenge reddie works.

Well, at least she spelled "disagree" correctly - so things are improving.
