    Newborn kittens
My female cat gave birth to 4 kittens approximately 5 hours ago and is ignoring them. She goes into the box if someone goes into the room but other than that she seems more concerned with her 4 month old kittens, bathing and mothering them. Any help?

Call a vet as you may have to bottle feed them. I would guess that your cat might be too young herself to understand the mothering instincts that she's feeling. To bathe them in the mean time use a wash cloth and luke warm water, you will also have to "lick" them with it in order to get them to urinate and defficate. Pay special attention to their eyes and make sure there is no discharge. Call the vet about a feeding schedule and for kitten formula. You have to be the mommy if she isn't willing too.

The most important things are to keep them warm, feed them, and help them potty. Kittens can die quickly if they get cold. Normally they stay warm from their mommy's body heat but if she won't stay with them you may need warm water bottles wrapped in towels. You can put one or two in the box with them to make sort of a little nest. Be sure they have room to get away from the heat if they need to. Kittens can also overheat easily. Before putting the warm water bottles in with the kittens, touch them to the inside of your arm or to your face(cheeks) to test for temperature. If they start to burn you after a few seconds, they are too hot and need to cool off before being anywhere near the kittens.
