    Furnace unit
My furnace (non heat pump) had been making popping sounds and I found that the front cover had only 6 screws holding it on and metal tape sealing the edges. The tape split leaving the corners lifted and thus allowing more air (and dirt?) in so I temporarily retaped (at midnight) it and all was quiet. I had planned on opening it up in the morning to clean and before I got to it, I noticed it seemed to be short cycling. Upon inspection, I found that the coils were frozen up. This seems normal for summer time maybe with low freon etc but not in winter during the heat cycle. What gives?

New thermostat recently? Something is making your a/c unit run... unplug outdoor disconnect until you find out why.
