    Cutting foundation for basement door
I have a foundation wall that is 4' and I'd like to dig down to the floor level and then cut the wall to put in a door (create exit for basement). I will be removing 4' of dirt covering the floor/footings. Can I do this? I'd like to put stairs (concrete) on the outside of the home leading up to the yard (4' above). Do I have to WORRY about frost (Interior B.C. is my home) getting under the footing now that no dirt is covering the footing? Do you recommend styrofoam? How thick of a concrete landing (to prevent frost getting under footing?) Drainage? IDEAS/THoughts? Thanks for this service via the internet:)

Your best bet would be to call a structural engineer to evaluate your situation.

As for the frost it shouldn't affect your footer because of the exposure. And you should have a drain tile pipe you'll find when you dig down. Try not to disturb this if possible.
Your best bet would to have a pre-cast concrete step unit professionally installed.
