Hi, my husband received a partial inheiritence from his uncle in the amount of 10,000 we deposited it into our bank which has a two day hold after it was available I paid bills that were due, the next day it was returned nsf, we are now over 2,000 because it was returned nsf, we talked to his aunt which is administrator and she says there is a 10 day hold for that bank to pay it, my husband is on disability and we do not have the funds to pay the over draft fees or the amounts that have been paid what can we do our bank says that we have 5 days to make things right, can somebody help us on what to do. Basically you should not have written checks against this check until you were certain that the check had cleared. Right now you could advise your bank about the other bank's hold policy and see if there is anything they can do to speed things along for you. They may be able to do this if you approach the branch manager and explain the circumstances involved. Other than that, there is virtually nothing you can do.
