Previous years of FICA and Medicare!
    Hello,
I worked on campus during the years of 2006 and 2007 and my employer held FICA and Medicare. I know I have to fill form 843 and 8316 to get it back from the government but when I filled it out when can I mailed it in? And, how or where can I find the forms of the previous years?

    Thank you,

    Leonardo

You can get the forms from Internal Revenue Service or Home - 1040.com.

For 2006 and 2007, you can mail the forms immediately. I believe that the IRS wants the forms mailed to the IRS Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Thank you so much for your help.
One more thing, to get a refund for 2008 do I still need to mail my taxes out to the IRS and then apply for a FICA and Medicare refund? How would it work?

    Thank you.

For 2008, if you are exempt individual, you should ask your employer to refund you the FICA taxes. Do it before it is late.

Agreed. It is always better to get the refund from the employer FIRST, because...

    1) It is generally quicker!

    2) The employer will get HIS half of the FICA taxes back as well.

I know it is always easier but my employer is a community college they have their budget for the year, so I tried asking them to exempt me but they wouldn't do it. I am just going to file to the IRS even though it takes a while!

    Thank you.

Glad to help; I have found that most employers are the same way.
