Does he really like me or just want to fool around?
One day I talked on the phone with a guy that I like and he likes me too, but we aren't in a committed relationship yet. I told him about a friend of mine who dates older guys because it is hard for her to find guys her age. Then, this guy I like started commenting stuff like: Oh, what's her phone number by the way?? But then, I just became silent. Then, he was like: Oh, I was just joking.

Why would he jokes about that kind of stuff?? Why is he hitting on my friend?? Does he really like me or he just want to fool around??

When they ask for your friends number or your sisters number that is a CLEAR indication they are not interested in you in a serious relationship kind of way. It means he looks like you as a confidant or a kid sister or whatever but not a girlfriend!
He said he was only kidding because he saw that you were hurt that he didn't look at you as potential girlfriend 'material'
Maybe he just wants you as a friend and not even someone to fool around with.

Thanks... but what's weird is that he has asked me to be his girlfriend...

I don't know - I make some awfully inappropriate jokes to my longterm girlfriend. I get in a lot of trouble :)

Exactly. She should be thinking this is inappropriate if he is interested in HER.

Well it defiantly was an inappropriate joke! But it might just have been a really bad joke!

Is he older then you De4rest?

Often people will say something serious and then when it goes bad they will claim they were just kidding to ease the tension. I am sure that is the case here.

Of course he might have meant it in a serious manner, but he might not have... tone of voice, facts... I've heard people make jokes like that without meaning it... heck I've made bad jokes in that way and I didn't mean it... ;)

Oh by the way did he just ask for her number or has he actually hit on her?

It sounds like it was joke. Besides that comment has he said or ask anything about her? The joke miight have been tasteless but you should hear the stuff my fiancé jokes about. When he does things like that I join in on the fun or do it to him when he least expect it.

I would say he was just joking and not to dwell on it but I don't believe he was. When you first start talking to someone your interested you try to do as much as possible to show that person your interested in them. You wouldn't joke about wanting to get one of there friends numbers.

It seriously could have been a guy saying a dumb thing for a laugh. It's the Y chromosomes gift to men, I swear. Especially if he is younger.

Read any poll about "what do you like in a guy" and "makes me laugh" is a very common answer.

Well, some of us were NEVER meant to be comedians.

So, at this point, you know nothing.

A girl can talk about sex without wanting it or telling the guy "you can have me" right? A woman can talk her sexual likes without giving a "green light" to the man, right?

So you brought up the issue of the friend and it might be as simple as a lame attempt at making you laugh. Maybe it was an attempt to "feel you out" concerning sex.

Best case scenario is he read the opening wrong and confused you. Worst case scenario is he's just looking for a distraction... you... her... whomever...

And, as usual, you aren't going to get a real answer from ANYONE but him... and your time invested in seeing what is what.

True that! He is really the only one who has the answer to this whole scenario... and it really could be that he's a bad comedian.

Well then I really think it was just some stupid joke! Seriously :)

Which is good, if he had been interested he prob would have asked something more about her!

Then you've nothing to worry about. However, if you do get involve with him let him know that you don't like jokes this.

Try and watch for a pattern of him showing interest in other girls.
Don't put too much stock in it but eventually you should be able to tell if he is still 'shopping around' or just joking or just has a wandering eye but doesn't mean anything by it.
