Right now HP is the top selling brand in the world. Toshiba and Sony also make good laptops.

I have 3 laptops in my household, HPDV200z, Gateway T2330, and an HPD2000T. Mine is the DV2000Z AMD CPU instead of Intel, I love HP as a Brand and recommend this Brand to anyone buying a PC. My mother has a Toshiba Satellite and I hate it, maybe it's personal preference but I personally don't like Toshiba or Gateway, I like Dell and HP and am moderate on Sony's. Hope this helps!
